Olly Murs
(Sony Music)

In a nutshell: The extremely likable runner-up from the sixth season of The X Factor (UK) releases his debut effort.

High notes: It’s no wonder that the album is self-titled – it totally embodies all the characteristics that Olly has become famous for. Light-hearted, fun and full of charm, Olly Murs the record is very much like Olly Murs the man especially on tracks like ‘Change Is Gonna Come’, ‘Please Don’t Let Me Go’ and ‘Thinking of Me’.

Low notes: After watching him on The X Factor, we are more than aware of his vocal range and there isn’t anything on the album that lets him truly show it off. ‘Heart On My Sleeve’ and ‘A Million More Years’ push him to stretch his vocal cords but we know he is capable of more.

Verdict: It’s the perfect album to start the day off with. His reggae-inflected songs will put a little extra pep in your step and leave you with a smile on your face. Happy music is good for the soul!
